Did you know that in Sweden a schoolboy collapsed and went into convulsions after playing a new version of the World of Warcraft computer game for 24 hours straight?! The 15-year-old boy and his friends were playing Wrath of the Lich King when he suffered what appeared to be an epileptic seizure.Just thought you might want to know that.

The Bitter Cold
This is my least favorite time of the year. The only good thing about it is Christmas, and that has already lost it's sparkle for me. I think the best time of year is fall because it's not to hot or to cold. There's also Halloween and Thanksgiving, don't forget my birthday. So fall is a pretty profitable and comfortable time of year.

My Weekend
My weekend was pretty boring. I didn't go to school Thursday so I had to make up for my classes plus do homework for Friday. And my grandma just had foot surgery so she can't get around well and I have to help her move around the house and get stuff done. Also I had to help clean out our basement. So I pretty much worked all weekend. Sounds like fun, right?

Music
Music is my whole existence. There's just so many different types of music that go with anything and everything. I feel really sorry for people that cannot hear because without music or any sound at all life would be boring and dull. There wouldn't be anything to dance to either, even though I don't dance anyway.

If I had one wish I would own the Oscar Mayer food company. Because then I would be THE Oscar Mayer Weiner of the world! Not Really! I would really want to just have one day without having to argue with my family. Their pretty good, but their sticklers for rules.

The Significance of the 2008 Election
I think that this years election will change our country completely. It proves that our country still has racism but can overcome it. I think its good for our country to have a black president. I think that this will prove to people that black or any other race of people aren't inferior in any way. Obama will bring change yes, but hopefully that will turn this country away from it's current path

The Importance of Election Day
Election day is the most important day of our country. This is the day that the people choose who will lead and represent them for the next four years. Without this day the government would take over and choose who they want as leader. Without this day we wouldn't be a democracy. We would be controlled by the government.

Favorite Object
The one thing I have that I couldn't live without is a stone key that I have that my mom considered lucky. After she died I kept it and have had it hidden in my room ever since. Its the one thing of her's that I have left and I will never give it up. I hope that one day it will bring me luck just like it did for her.

America's Dependence on Foreign Oil
One of our nation's biggest weaknesses is our dependence on foriegn oil. But every soultion to this problem seems to lead to another one. Alternative energy sources are too expensive, and often aren't worth what they cost. Some possible solutions are years away. The nation has dug a very deep hole for itself, and the situation probably will get much worse before it gets better.
Now, researchers at the University of Missouri in Columbia have identified a number of reasons why we can't seem to dig ourselves out of this "hole". Instead of moving forward, we are battling with tax laws that were established a century ago, corporations that have billions invested in oil reserves have no incentive to look for alternatives, and a political system that is paralyzed.

Video Games
Does anyone else think its annoying when someone does nothing but play games? I mean I love playing video games too, dont get me wrong. I just can't stand it when thats all that someone does. They could be doing something with friends or they could even read a book once in a while. I think one reason that people play games all the time is because, believe it or not, it has been proven that video games produce the same chemical in the brain that some drugs do. Anyway dont stop playing games, just not all the time.

Censorship
I believe it is a bad idea to censor certain parts of movies and music. All this censoring is happening because they are deemed "inappropiate" but who has the right to say what is appropiate and what isn't? I think parents have the right to say something is inappropiate for their children, but that doesn't mean that the general public has the same ideals. What some say are inappropiate others believe are just fine. I think that censorhip should be gotten rid of. If a parent doesn't like the music thier children are listening to they don't have to let them listen to it. Same with movies. I get not letting kids watch horror movies or listening to heavy metal. But I believe that once that kid reaches a certain age they should be able to watch or listen to what they want, and not be legally restricted just because of thier age. For example, there are movies, even games, that a person cannot rent or buy because they are considerd too young to see some of the content within them. I think the public should choose for themselves what is too much and what isn't.

History of Halloween
Halloween was originally a festival that the Celts celebrated called Samhain. They celebrated their new year on November 1. They believed that on the night before the new year was when the border between the land of the living and of the dead blurred the most.
They celebrated Samhain on the night of October 31, our Halloween, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, Celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the Druids, or Celtic priests, to make predictions about the future. For a people entirely dependent on the natural world, these prophecies were an important source of comfort during the long, dark winter. To commemorate the event, Druids built huge sacred bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities.
During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes, typically of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each other's future. When the celebration was over, they re-lit their hearth fires from the sacred bonfire to help protect them during the coming winter.

ITBS Testing
I know what your thinking, that I'm just someone else complaining about testing. Well you're wrong I just wanted to talk to everyone about the reasons we do them. One reason the state tests us is that they use these results to help determine the extent to which individual students have the background and skills needed to deal successfully with the academic aspects of an instructional program. Another one is to find out the general developmental level of students so that materials and instructional procedures may be adapted to meet individual needs. These are only some of the reasons. See these tests are meant to help us. But I will admit that the results are misused sometimes. Sometimes the results are used to hold a student back a grade, aven though the tests dont count as a grade. They have also been used to dtermine whether a child even belongs in school yet. Again, as I said earlier, the tests are meant to help us, but have been misused. Just keep this in mind when you have these tests, instead of griping about them.
